We had a small but significant presence during the Climate Camp which occurred outside the European Carbon Exchange in Bishopsgate from 1st to 2nd April. We supplied the Rocket Stove for heating food, and were gathering for Communion when the Riot Police showed up and began attempting to shut the camp down. Whilst a small group held a prayer meeting, others took part in the incredible non-violent efforts of the camp to resist the police' actions.
It might not look like we're up to much right now from this website, but please don't think that's because we've all gone to sleep. We're planning a gathering and events tied to 3 major mobilisations this year. Its just nothing is quite decided enough to announce formally. Check back soon, though, as we expect to announce at least one event this week.
Aldermaston is Britain's Nuclear Weapons lab, charged with making a new nuke, despite Britain's supposed commitment to non-proliferation. Christian Peacemaker Teams and London Catholic Worker are inviting Christians to join their group within the blockade.
About a year ago, a gathering decided to create an i58 newsletter. It never happened. Until now... download it, read it, and if you like it, print it, stick it on your Church noticeboard, hand it to that friend who's "kind of into justice issues" and generally get it out there.
With too many reflections submitted to fit them all into the upcoming 'i58 Update' (it'll be available within a week), it seems a pity not to post the remainder up here for people to read.
We're combining these two events into one weekend, and this time we're off to Birmingham. It seems likely we'll also be looking at some issues around the role of, and form taken by, i58 which could be quite exciting, as well as big ideas for future events and actions. The venue for the weekend's discussions and general hanging out will be Journey MCC Church, just round the corner from New Street Station (map)
