Climate Camp closes, an amazing success

Climate Camp was an enormous success, and it was great to see so many people taking action. While few recognisable I58 faces showed up, we did see a large number of Christians from different backgrounds passing through the camp, from Quakers and Doubters right through to Charismatic Evangelicals. I58'ers were interviewed for Premier Christian Radio and BBC TV's Heaven and Earth Show, which goes out on Sunday 26th August.

Praise God! We have a site!

The site has been taken and (mostly) secured, however the police are causing problems with people getting on and off site. So that's one big task off the list, but it does mean that all the work to assemble the site structures and pull off the event has to be completed really fast, and so prayer for strength, patience and energy would be really appreciated.

Camp Still going Ahead!

Climate Camp will be going ahead, despite most papers claiming that BAA have won the injunction battle. The reality is very different, as BAA have merely won the case for an injunction, while the judge has promised that the final text will still allow the camp to take place. This means that the camp, and all workshops (see timetable) and sustainable living stuff attached to it will go ahead just fine (thank God!). The actual injunction will only prevent people from doing illegal things while protesting, which makes it nearly pointless.

Prayer Request: Injuction attempted against Camp

This is simply to say that a lawyer well known for filing injunctions against protesters on behalf of companies has had one served against several groups and individuals who have previously had involvement in the Climate Camp. There are several things that need communicating with regards to this:

The camp is going ahead. It may be that some people can no longer take part, but as far as we know, no Christian participant has been affected. There are no less than 3 back-up plans, and we shall find our place within them if we must, but we still expect there to be a camp.

Camp for Climate Action at Heathrow

We're working towards a Christian presence at this year's camp, which follows on from the hugely successful 2006 camp by Drax Power Station. The camp has 4 aims: education, sustainable living, action and movement building. There will be workshops on direct action for those who have never participated in anything like this, on the science of climate change and on practical solutions. There will also be opportunities for direct action. It's going to be amazing, so don't miss it!
